About Sara

Sara earned her Education Specialist Degree, or master’s degree plus thirty credit hours, in Marriage & Family Therapy from the University of South Carolina in 2011. She has worked extensively with adolescents, adults, and children providing individual and family counseling services. She also has experience leading groups, facilitating the Girls on the Run program, and writing and co-administering Fun Girl Fitness, an after school mind-body program for girls. She is currently developing a yoga therapy group for adult women.

While in graduate school, Sara was actively involved in the Upsilon Sigma Chi chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, the international honor society for professional counselors, and was voted the chapter’s Outstanding Marriage and Family Student by faculty members. Other extracurricular activities included researching and writing on a variety of topics with Dr. Debbie Sturm including: the changing definition of family; combining yoga and counseling; and the positive effects of goal setting. Sara was also a presenter at the South Carolina Counseling Association’s Annual Conference in 2010 and 2011, and she helped co-author a chapter in the book Social Class and the Helping Professions.

Sara is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and holds license number LCPC-6331 in the State of Idaho. In addition to maintaining a private practice, she works for Vista Family Services as a family and child therapist. She also provides supervised visitation services for Family Court Services, partners with other agencies and colleagues to develop and implement mental health programs, and is a past Co-Chair of the Teton Valley Mental Health Coalition.

Her professional memberships include the American Counseling Association, the National Board for Certified Counselors, the Idaho Counseling Association, and the Association for Play Therapy.

Alternative Therapies

A long time student of Anusara Yoga, Sara completed her 100-hour Immersion and 100-hour Teacher Training with Stacey Collins, Kelley Gardner, and Sarah Faircloth. She qualifies as a YogaAlliance Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200-hour level and was a regular teacher at YogaTejas in Driggs, Idaho.

In August of 2011, she began studying basic Ayurveda with Cate Stillman and completed the Living Ayurveda Course and Mentor’s Club Course. She has regularly participated in the Yogidetox.

She has attended workshops with John Friend, Paul Muller-Ortega, Bill Mahony, Christina Sell, Noah Maze, Cate Stillman, and Bridget Lyons.


Sara lives with her husband, son, dog, and ever expanding book collection. She enjoys exploring the West, living like a yogi, learning new things, and writing and editing for elephant journal.
